Abstract
Heip, C. (1974). A note on the life-span of r-strategists. Biol. Jb. Dodonaea 42: 117-120
The idea is presented that the short life-span of r-strategists may in some cases be an adaptation to avoid predation. Evidence supporting this hypothesis is presented by examination of predation of the polyp Protohydra leuckarti on harpacticoid copepods.
