Excursions
Two excursions will be organized in the afternoon of Thursday 20 September 2018, as a formal part of the conference program. They are free of charge but registration is mandatory. At registration you will be requested to make your choice, with a first come first served policy. Both excursions will start at the conference venue and afterwards bring you straight to the conference dinner in Bruges. Buses return to the venue in Ostend after the conference dinner.
Bruges: Exploring the Jewel of Flanders
There are places that somehow manage to get under your skin, even though you don’t really know them all that well. Bruges is that kind of place. A warm and friendly place, a place made for people. A city whose history made it great, resulting in a well-deserved classification as a Unesco World Heritage site. The excursion will bring you to some of the highlights of this historical jewel of Flanders.

The Zwin: a Coastal Transboundary Nature Reserve
The Zwin is a unique nature reserve with an exceptional world of plants and animals, located on the Dutch-Belgian border. This saltmarsh and dune area is what remains from the medieval sea-inlet, bringing wealth to the city of Bruges. The Zwin plain changes in sync with the tides and the seasons. A guided tour will make your visit a unique experience.

Beer seminar and conference dinner at the brewery Halve Maan
An experienced guide will lead you through the world of hop and malt starting in the new state of the art brewing house and finishing in our unique museum. We serve you a well deserved Brugse Zot as an aperitif and invite you at the table for a tempting culinary feast with various Belgian beers to sample. Our chefs use the beers to prepare matching seasonal food specialties.
After the main course you can learn to pull your own beer under the guidance of a beer sommelier. We end the evening with a delicious dessert and a tangy Belgian fruit beer.
