Description West Whelks have been part of our Whitstable Harbour heritage for 150 years supplying sea food for the UK and Europe. Whitstable is a working Harbour and having lived here since 1974 I love to see the fishermen at work, and you never know what you might see when you walk through there. We have the shops in the Harbour Village, but I like to see the real Harbour, the boats, the fishermen, the catches. Here they have just steamed the whelks and are bagging them up to sell.
