EUCC and EUROCOAST warmly welcome you to the website of the LITTORAL 2012 conference, the 11th edition in the series of biennial littoral conferences. The City of Oostende, at the heart of Belgium’s coast, will proudly host LITTORAL 2012 from Tuesday 27 till Thursday 29 November of 2012.

The central theme of this edition is LITTORAL 2012: Coasts of tomorrow

With increasing pressure from both land and sea, understanding coastal processes and adapting governance and management to present and future challenges is crucial. In coastal regions, typically a large number of users and functions come together. Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) has been developed over the past two decades to combine functions, users and decision levels in a sustainable way. However, with the acceleration of global change, the economic crisis and the demographic shift, a new and improved ICZM is needed to safeguard our coasts of tomorrow. During the Littoral 2012 conference, four themes that will shape the coasts of tomorrow will be addressed.

The conference is open to all professionals and stakeholders dealing with coastal issues and will give access to cutting edge science, real-life examples and a high-level debate, and will give you the opportunity to network with scientists, practitioners, policy advisors, administrators and industry from all over the world.

The end report is now available for download.

The book of abstracts is available here and all presentations can be found on the presentations page.
