Cultural Identity

Fishing places and identity

Fishing places can shape and influence the cultural identity of coastal communities and those who live and work there. Fishing may be important for cultural identity both on an individual level, but also collectively as part of a community’s identity. Influences in the built and physical environment also shape identity and our collection of images highlight some of these material references to fishing through landscapes, buildings, fishing gear, signs and decoration and fishing activity.

It isn’t a job, it’s a way of life

I think that Boulogne would lose some of its identity if fishing were to disappear
