Abstract
    The Atlantic rangia Rangia cuneata is native to the Gulf of Mexico. The species colonised the Atlantic coast of North America and Europe. The first European record dates from August 2005, in the port of Antwerp. The introduction most likely occurred by transporting larvae in ship’s ballast water. The Atlantic rangia lives mainly in estuaries, in brackish and almost fresh waters. In harbours, the species can cause problems by settling in industrial cooling water systems.
