Abstract
    Van oorsprong komt de Estuariene poliepvlo Incisocalliope aestuarius voor in riviermondingen langs de Amerikaanse Atlantische kust. Via schepen, door aanhechting aan de romp of in het ballastwater, werd deze soort geïntroduceerd in Europa. De eerste waarneming in België vond plaats in de Zeeschelde, in oktober 1996. Deze vlokreeft komt enkel voor in het brakke water van estuaria. Opmerkelijk is dat de soort in de Westerschelde bijna uitsluitend voorkomt in associatie met hydroïdpoliepjes, een habitat die nauwelijks door inheemse vlokreeften wordt benut.
