The overall objective of the project is to elucidate the biogeochemical cycling of Si and its anthropogenic perturbations in the river-estuary-coastal zone continuum of the Scheldt. Aim, in particular, is to identify the sources and sinks of Si in the aquatic continuum, and to quantify the major processes controlling the biogeochemical behaviour of Si in the water column and in the sediments.
