The purpose of this research project was to examine the principle means by which pollutants are carried to the North Sea and to trace them once they reach it. For macro- and micro-nutrients, heavy metals and organic pollutants, the following were studied in detail for the North Sea : the atmospheric and river input, the speciation, behaviour and transformation, and the sink processes.

Data on trace elements such as aluminium, iron, manganese, copper, zinc, nickel, cadmium and lead, with particular attention to the dissolved phase (water), nutrients, chl-a, phaeophytin-a and trace metals such as manganese, copper, zinc, nickel, cadmium and lead (water), organic composites in the water and nutrients and heavy metals to study atmospheric transport.
