Participate in the Tangier Forum: Marine Protected Areas are everyone’s business!

MedPAN, RAC/SPA, the Moroccan Haut Commissariat aux Eaux et Forêts et à la Lutte contre la Désertification and a number of partners organise the 2nd Forum of Marine Protected Areas in the Mediterranean in Tangier, Morocco, from 28 November to 1 December 2016. Four hundred partic ipants from all around the Mediterranean and beyond are expected in Tangier.

Every 4 years, the Forum of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean triggers a unique process during which managers, policy makers, socio-economic actors, civil society and the scientific community tackle, at all levels, the challenges that MPAs face in the region.

The 2016 edition of the Forum is a key milestone in view of the 2020 deadline of the Convention on Biological Diversity targets.

The high point of the Forum process is a 4-day event to assess the progress made and what’s left ahead according to the Mediterranean MPA Roadmap developed at the 2012 Forum and adopted by the Barcelona Convention in February 2016. What should still be done to conserve by 2020 at least 10% of the Mediterranean Sea through effectively managed MPAs and other area-based conservation measures? How to address MPA issues, especially those related to climate change, with a long-term and integrated vision?

We would like to be able to count on your participation in this Forum that will be held in Tangier, Morocco, from 28 November to 1 December 2016. You will find the latest version of the programme by following this link, which includes a scheduled agenda of the sessions. This programme will be subsequently updated with all details on the sessions content, speakers, and practical information.

If you or a colleague wishes to participate in the Forum, please advise us by email on contact@medmpaforum.org before Friday 16 September 2016. We will then send you in September further instructions for your registration as well as useful information to organise your stay.

Marine Protected Areas are everyone’s business. Join in the Forum process!

Kind regards,

The organisers.
