Abstract
    Perception and cognition are separate processes. They contribute fundamentally important properties to ecological interactions such as competition and predation. The interactions of competition and predation as mediated by perception and cognition may be essential to understanding the ontogeny, ecology, and phylogeny of the Copepoda.
