Abstract
The digestive gland of M. edulis shows seasonal changes in biochemical composition which suggest a role in the storage of energy reserves. There is evidence that such reserves are transferred from the digestive gland to the gonad during gametogenesis. Digestive gland material is also utilised during periods of starvation and temp stress; this process is associated with degeneration in the structure of the tubules. Digestive tubules can recover from the effects of a temp and nutritive stress and regain their structural integrity.
