Abstract
In Sabella --marine Annelida without calcareous tube--a considerable natural bioaccumulation of calcium was localized in epithelial cells of the nephridia and the digestive tract as well as in the conjunctive matrix and vascular, coelomic and urinary spaces. Two ultrastructural methods of calcium revelation by potassium pyroantimonate and by sodium N,N-naphthaloylhydroxylamine (NHA) were used. Wave-length dispersive and energy selective X-ray microanalysis indicate that accumulated calcium is associated with phosphorus. The repartition of calcium, located together with pigments within vesicles, shows a progressive evolution. The enrichment in calcium of these pigmentary and calcic vesicles is probably related to the cellular maturation process.
