Anniversary-edition of the VLIZ Young Scientists' Day (27 November; day)
On Friday the 27th of November we programmed a special edition of the VLIZ Young Scientists' day. Scientists from Flanders and the surroundings will present their work towards an audience of scientists, funding agencies, policy makers and journalists.
On the anniversary day, we want to illustrate the diversity, quality and relevance of marine and coastal sciences in Flanders with an extensive poster session. This session deserves your full attention and cooperation. We count on you to be part of this initiative (‘avoid being the only one that is not there...’).
In order to prepare for this most comprehensive poster demonstration – a snapshot of 'the state of marine science in Flanders' – we challenge all marine and coastal scientists to prepare a short abstract (max. 500 words: cf. template) by 25 September, in which your research is presented in a clear, concise and attractive way. All abstracts will be published in a special publication, and the best posters will receive an award.
Thirty abstracts will be selected for a plenary oral presentation (very short, 5 minutes only!). A professional jury of science communicators and journalists will evaluate the relevance and quality of these 'pitching' presentations. We thus hope to stimulate all scientists to present their research in an exciting way and to communicate this fascinating science – and its importance to society – to the wider public.
Please, confirm us as soon as possible by mail whether you will participate in this challenging exercise and send us an abstract by 25 September!
This edition will replace the regular early spring Young Marine Scientists' Day of 2010.
