Digitized Herbarium from the University of Malaga. more
MGC Herbarium belongs to the University of Málaga, and is conducted by the Vegetal Biology Department (Botany Area). It is placed on the ground floor in the Science Faculty, with an extension of around 50 m2. The plants are covered by a double sheet and put in pasteboard boxes, which are, at the same time, included into compact lockers. All the material is periodically frozen and fumigated. The Herbarium has nearly 80.000 sheets, 95% identified at specie level, and all of them with a label and a registration number with the letters MGC. Cormophyta groups (Angyospermae, Gymnospermae and Pteridophyta) are the most represented, although there are also Algae, Bryophyta and Lichen. The majority of the plants in the Herbarium have their origin in territories of Andalusia, but it contains many plants from the rest of Spain and Northern Morocco too. It is an essential Herbarium for the projects Flora Iberica, Flora de Andalucía y norte de África, and Flora de Andalucía Oriental, so the greater part of the material has been confirmed or identified by the researchers of these projects. Nowadays, it is being computerized using GBIF Project HERBAR program.
