Abstract
Variations of oxygen consumption in P. serratus during its intermoult cycle were studied. In premoult a continuous increase in O-2 consumption, from 190 to 316 l/h/g wet weight was noticed. The highest values were observed in stage D2 and stage A and appear to be closely related to ecdysis. In postmoult a reverse variation was observed down to the minimal value in stage C. The relationship between O-2 consumption variations during the intermoult cycle and changes in the metabolic level as a function of tissue growth and of a possible change in the energetic substratum required in premoult, is discussed.
