| Abstract |
A cluster of 112 egg cases of the lesser spotted dogfish, Scyliorhinus canicula, washed ashore on 16 January 2010, is by far the largest number ever found along the Belgian coast. While such an egg case on the beach as a rule is empty, this bunch included several ones with surprise contents: 2 with a yolk sac, 1 with a small embryo of c.2.5 cm and the rest of a yolk sac, 1 with an embryo of c.4.5 cm and 13 with a fully grown juvenile shark. All animals were dead. |
