| Abstract |
Numerical experiments have been conducted to investigate the aggregating processes of settling floes within the mobile and stationary suspension layers. The methodology used included the maximum chain collision model for floc aggregation of mobile suspensions and differential settling collision for flocculation of stationary suspensions. The aggregates were analyzed in terms of their fractal dimension and other geometric characteristics using the Feret's diameter and Minkowski's logic. The results indicated a fractal dimension varying between 1.87 and 2.1 for the aggregates and a dimension of 1.65 to 2.45 for the floccules. The results are in agreement with observations from other numerical and experimental studies. |
