| Abstract |
The first discovery of H. sanguineus at the Dutch shore is reported. Two male specimens were collected in April 2003, under stones at the pier of Hoek van Holland. Also molting skins were found at the beach next to the pier. In January and February 2004 the species was still present at this location. A detailed description of circumstances of collection and a description of the easy to use determination characteristics is given. Especially the distinguishing characteristics between H. penicillatus and H. sanguineus are discussed. It is speculated that like H. penicillatus also H. sanguineus will be able to develop a large population in the Netherlands which can have a severe effect on the existing populations of . |
