| Abstract |
The total number of macrofungus species in the Flemish dune area is not yet known owing to difficulties with determination and the irregular appearance. A compilation list already contains 1350 macrofungus species. Although fungi are a very species rich group that plays an important role in ecosystem functioning, relatively little research is done, especially from an ecological point of view.
Dune specific species are found in salt marshes, mobile dunes, moss dunes, dune grasslands and associated with creeping willow in dune slacks. Dune coniferous woodland contains a large number of species and acts as a refuge for species declining in inland coniferous woodlands due to soil acidification. No dune specific species are known for the deciduous forest in the dune area. |
