Abstract |
The Erythrean bivalve species Callista florida has to be considered a common species throughout the suez Canal including the Bitter lakes. Some 65 years ago it has been collected, although rarely, on the beaches of Port Said (Moazzo, 1939). This Mediterranean record has been overlooked so far in studies dealing with Lessepsian migration. The National Mollusc collection of the Hebrew University is also in the possession of an old sample of Callista florida from off Port Said. Its presence in the Mediterranean has to be confirmed by more recent data. |
