Abstract
To determine the contents and character of manganese compounds in holocene deposits along the North Sea coast of Holland and Germany, several thousands of analyses have been made. It was found that the manganese content is very variable, owing to the postdepositional migrations. The conclusions which can be drawn about the origin of the mud and the directions of transport along the coast are mentioned.
