Abstract |
The strengths of whole mollusc shells, and prepared specimens, that had undergone various treatments including drying, but which were always tested wet, were compared with the strength of fresh shells. Usually there was no important effect but strong heating, in the region of 90°C, did have a noticeable effect on some shell types, reducing the strength by about 30%. |
