Abstract
Research run in the Agigea- Tuzla area, during 1997-1998, viewed the subtidal biocoenosis of the Black Sea's shore till the 16 m isobath. Both structure and seasonal and annual dynamics of the benthic fauna have been studied. The shallow near-shore water of the Black Sea recorded the most dramatic and harmful transformation due to industrialization and urban area extension. Modification of littoral currents due to hydrotechnical works and marine pollution led to extinction of macrophytes (Cystoseira and Zostera) that previously hosted numerous marine species. Tens of animal species reduced their effectives or became extinguished consequently.
