Abstract
Quartz crystal thermometer measurements were made in December 1976 of the water temperature at various depths under relatively thin ice at the margin of the Ross Ice Shelf (7803'S, 16721'E) and under sea ice (7752'S, 16644'E). Records of very cold water obtained at the first of these sites are discussed.
