Abstract
    Whereas the jaws of the axial proboscis of Perinereis cultrifera and Sthenelaïs boa (Nereidae and Aphroditidae) are completely destroyed by hot alcali, the two-paired systems of maxillar pieces of certain species of Eunicidae are build up of proteins, mineral salts and chitin. The quantity of chitin is relatively low and amounts approximately 0,13 % of the total dry weight.
