Abstract
The spawn of A. brasiliana consists of a few eggs contained in a large ovoid shaped capsule. The mean vol is 77 ml and the number of embryos per capsule varies from 9 to 33 (mean 22).The embryos have a direct development, feeding on dissolved extravitelline substances. The protein composition of the intra-capsular liquid is uniform in all stages of the embryos development, with 2 constant bands in the electrophoresis strips. The proteins and free amino acids conc varies with the different stages. Among the amino acids, glutamic, aspartic and phenylalanine were found as constant components. The changes observed in the pre-hatching stage suggests that the capsule's opening is essentially a chemical process.
