Abstract
The authors examine various species of meso- and macrobenthos Hydrophyte and Crustacean occurring in a brackish littoral pond of Sardinia island polluted by heavy metals. They investigate about bioconcentrations and mercury uptake coefficients along the first two rings of the main trophic benthic chain keeping in mind the concentration of this element on the sediments. They carry out a series of laboratory experiments on Gammarus aequicauda alimentary ethology and biology, along with tests about mercury uptake from two aliments to that crustacean. Moreover they make up hypothesis on the heterogeneous transfer of soluble compounds by the sediment rich in HgS, coming from different pond sectors.
