Abstract
During a study of the inshore small-mesh trawling survey of the Southern Spanish coast from 1980 to 1983, 131 species of fishes were taken. Data is given on this paper about the abundance, diversity and community composition of each species and a study of the biogeographical affinities of this population is established according to the actual geographical distribution in the world. Species with affinities atlantics prevail with 74.3%, while the fish endemics in the area represent only 6.9%. The catch of Pseudupeneus prayensis (F. Mullidae) and Hyporhamphus picarti (F. Hemirhamphidae) represent the first record of fish species from the European coast of the Mediterranean sea.
