Abstract |
A faunistic and taxonomical study of the Sertulariidae of the Strait of Gibraltar has been done to compare living populations of this important zoogeographical area, with the ones described for near Atlantic and/or Mediterranean Iberian areas. 12 species have been described and compared, from a zoogeographical and, sometimes, taxonomical point of view, with all known species, of sertularids from the Iberian littoral. A check-list of all these species, including all cited names in the literature and the Iberian distribution is given. Discordant opinions about some species are discussed, particularly the ones referred to as the complex Sertularella ellisii, S. mediterranea y S. ornata. A zoogeographical discussion is presented involving, among other aspects, the Mediterranean endemisms and the dispersal capacity of the members of this family. |
