Abstract
Spectral wave measurements made by, a space-borne SAR can be used to derive wave climates. The ERS-1 and ERS-2 missions have acquired a global data set of SAR observations that contains information on the global distribution of swell wave energy. Here a metbod is described how to exploit this unique archive. In coastal regions the SAR can be used to study the effect of shallow water on both the wave length and the amplitude of incoming swell.
