| Abstract |
A total of 25 grasshopper species is recorded in the Flemish coastal dunes. Five species are significantly more abundant in the coastal dune area than in other parts of Flanders: Oedipoda caerulescens, Platycleis albopunctata, Myrmeleotettix viridissima, Chorthippus albomarginatus and Tetrix ceperol. With the exception of Myrmeleotettix viridissima>, these species are included in the red list. Also Decticus verrucivoris [locally extinct] and Stenobothrus stigmaticus [threatened] are considered as target species that prefer the coastal dunes. Other red list species that require special conservation attention are Metrioptera roeselii, Chorthippus mollis and Omocestus viridulus. Sand dune dynamics and variation in grassland structure are important for the conservation of the most vulnerable species. |
