Abstract
The distribution of two recently characterized androgen receptors (AR alpha and AR beta ) was studied in the brain and pituitary of male rainbow trout by means of radioactive in situ hybridization. It was found that both receptors were expressed in the ventral telencephalon, the anterior preoptic region, the mediobasal hypothalamus and the optic tectum. In the pituitary, labelling was restricted to the proximal pars distalis. These results provide, for the first time in teleosts, information on the brain regions where circulating androgens could exert genomic effects.
