Abstract
Mesopotamia freshwater shrimp, Palaemon mesopotamicus is a critically endangered freshwater shrimp species native to Orontes River basin from the southern Türkiye and Orontes River, Khabur River, one of the tributaries of Euphrates, joining the river in Syria. Its populations are declining mainly due to habitat destruction resulted from dam constructions and water pollution. Immediate protection actions should be taken in order to protect the populations of Mesopotamia freshwater shrimp populations in Orontes River basin. The distribution, the biology, the ecological importance and the conservation status of P. mesopotamicus in the southern of Türkiye are presented.
