Abstract
In this work, a methodology for global preliminary site assessment for offshore wind applications is developed. This methodology is based on a comprehensive metocean criteria set. The actual calculation is performed using ERA5 reanalysis hindcast data as the input dataset. For the development of the methodology, the state of the art of site assessment is presented and the scope of the work defined within this frame. Hereinafter, the data basis ERA5 is described and the criteria set developed. The outcomes are combined in the methodology. In order to present the methodology, it is applied to the three example sites German Bight, US East Coast and South Korea. The results are discussed and the methodology reviewed based on the key findings.
