The 34th Annual International Research Ship Operators (IRSO) meeting will be held from 16 to 20 October 2023 at the UNESCO world heritage site City of Bruges. The meeting will be co-hosted by Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS)

Presentations & posters

To help us complete the agenda in good time, and to secure a presentation time slot, we would appreciate it if you could register your interest before 16 August 2023. We ask that you please upload your Powerpoint or PDF files no later than 12 October 2023.

Plenary presentations should 20 minutes duration, including up to 5 minutes for questions. Some special interest or working group topics may run longer, please let Greg or Giuseppe know if you require more time.

As with previous IRSO Conferences, poster sessions will be held during IRSO 2023. Please note that poster size is A0 (841mm x 1189mm) and will be printed by the hosts. Poster files should be supplied in high quality PDF format. To allow time to print, please submit your poster files no later than 1 October 2023.

Meeting venue

Grand Hotel Casselbergh**** is centrally located in Bruges, next to the Burg and the Main Market Square. At the back of the luxury hotel a completely new annex was built. Hotel accommodations

We have made arrangements with two hotels in Bruges:

Make yourself comfortable and stay at the conference venue
Choose this nice hotel of the same group, located at only 700m from the conference venue

Please note that for both hotel, the full amount for your accommodation will be charged to your card on 31 August to guarantee your booking. If you cancel between 31 August & 1 October, 50% will be refunded. If you cancel later than 01/10/2023, no refund will be made.

Special events

We kick off the IRSO week with an Ice Breaker Reception, a perfect opportunity to catch up with each other before the actual conference starts. The reception is hosted at the Grand Hotel Casselbergh, which is also the venue of the conference.

On Thursday afternoon, you can join a tour in the historical city of Bruges. In the evening, you are invited for a conference dinner in brewery Halve Maan. On Friday, a visit to both the RV Belgica and the RV Simon Stevin is planned. Friday afternoon is traditionally reserved for a social event to close the conference week.
