Abstract
By instruction of the Ghent Port Community, the Maritime Institute, did research about the potential landing of ships' waste in the port of Ghent and about the organisation of reception facilities for this waste. For the seagoing vessels the MARPOL 73/78 Convention and the compulsory landing of ships' waste was the basis. For the inland navigation and pleasure crafts in the port of Ghent, the starting point was the prohibition of dumping or throwing waste overboard. The data collected are based on questionaires, distributed among seagoing vessels and inland barges.
