Abstract

The ELASMON project aims to address the knowledge gaps for sharks and rays in the North Sea, with a specific focus on Belgian waters. This will be achieved by analysing existing data and developing and implementing innovative monitoring techniques. The central goal is to establish an effective management plan to protect sharks and rays in the BPNS. In this way, the project will actively contribute to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive in Belgium (2022-2027) in which sharks and rays are put forward as target species and tagging these species, in addition to rolling out a management plan, is on the list of important actions.
