Abstract
estate amoebae are single-celled organisms that construct shells that can be found in salt marsh sediments. Surface samples show that different taxa occur at different elevations in relation to sea level and fossil assemblages can therefore be used to reconstruct past sea level. The chapter summarizes the results of existing work on methods and applications of testate amoebae analysis to sea-level research. The approach has only been developed relatively recently, and much more work is needed to make this a routinely and widely applied method.
