Abstract
This document provides a high-level overview of key principles, existing standards, frameworks,
and recommended practices to support citizen science in properly sharing their data. It is part of
a broader set of data sharing guidelines available from the IOC and the Ocean Decade.
These guidelines are designed to assist project leaders and data managers involved in Ocean
Decade Actions that have a component or focus on citizen science. They also offer practical advice
for Data Platforms (IOC-designated National Oceanographic Data Centres and Associated Data
Units; or other regional data networks, services, and facilities) on how to integrate citizen science
data and how to support these initiatives by providing guidance on ensuring data quality for
    sharing.
