Call for the VLIZ Marine Science Awards 2022

With these prizes, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) wants to recognize meritorious marine research, encourage young marine professionals to continue doing this in the future, and promote marine scientific research in Flanders. The award ceremony will take place on VLIZ Marine Science Day 2023 on Wednesday 1 March in Bruges.
 
  • The VLIZ Professional Bachelor Thesis Award 2022
Every year, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) awards a prize to a professional bachelor thesis. Both fundamental and applied research in all branches of marine sciences are taken into consideration. The prize amounts to 500 EUR each and is reserved to young researchers who have successfully graduated as a professional bachelor from a Flemish college in the past two years (2021 or 2022), or to Flemish young researchers who, in the past two years (2021 or 2022) graduated from an international university of college.

  • The VLIZ Master Thesis Awards 2022
Every year, VLIZ rewards two master theses. Both fundamental and applied research in all branches of marine sciences are taken into consideration. One of both prizes is reserved for a climate-oriented thesis. The prizes amount to 500 EUR each and are reserved to young researchers who graduated from a Flemish university or college in the past two years (2021 or 2022), or to Flemish young researchers who, in the past two years (2021 or 2022) graduated from an international university of college.

  • The VLIZ North Sea Award 2022
VLIZ awards an annual scientific prize to foster innovative fundamental or applied research on the structure and functioning of the North Sea. The prize will be awarded to a researcher or a research team active and residing in a country by the North Sea. The prize amounts to 1 000 EUR and is indivisible. It will be granted to reward a recent and original scientific work on the structure, operation and/or sustainable management of the ecosystem of the North Sea, with special attention to the shallow coastal areas and estuaries of the Southern Bight and the English Channel. The contribution has to be of postgraduate or postdoctoral level, referring to a maximum of three years of postdoctoral research since obtaining the PhD.
