Abstract
The Ocean Decade National Committee for Belgium (NDC-BE) is established as an open group, focusing on an active contribution to the Ocean Decade (OD). The committee consists of a core group and an open meeting. The core group and core group members formally represent organizations, administrations, and authorities at the federal, regional (sub-national) and local level that contribute with concrete actions to the OD challenges to achieve the OD objectives. Participation to the open meeting is voluntary and based on willingness to contribute with active communication and outreach, exchanges during the open meetings, and promotion and awareness raising on the Ocean Decade outside the meetings and in participants’ networks.
Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) is given mandate to provide secretariat support to the NDC-BE. VLIZ supports the secretariat with a 1FTE programme specialist (also covering the Ocean Decade secretariat for Flanders) and a part-time dedicated specialist in International Relations. The NDC-BE is supported by 18 active members, representing the diversity of ocean actors and stakeholders in Belgium.
