Abstract
The zone Raversijde-Mariakerke-Wellington is a weak link in the coastal safety. To satisfy the coastal safety masterplan (Afdeling Kust, 2011), it is necessary to provide coastal defense technical solutions that meets the safety criteria. This work shows the preliminary design, namely structure heights in the zone of Raversijde- Mariakerke-Wellington. It is conducted by a 1D numerical model SWASH (Zijlema et al., 2011) with a combination of equations from literature (e.g. Guza and Feddersen, 2012 for the directional spreading effect).

The dike heightening is proposed based on the SWASH calculation results including the analysis of the effects of directional spreading and parapet based on literature. In a later stage of the design proposed dike heights will be fine-tuned using a more elaborated methodology.
