Abstract |
Presents the state of knowledge on coral reef geomorphology, including material from French, German, Russian, and Japanese teams not previously available in English. Describes different types of reef, the environment in which coral reefs live, the way they are built, and how they have grown to their present form. Considers the various theories on reef and atoll formation, taking into account recent results of deep drilling in Pacific coral structures. Examines the damage to reefs caused by human activity and means of reef protection and recovery. Includes Red Sea, Brazilian, and Polynesian material. |
