Abstract
The ulstrastructure of the ectodermal paired larval kidneys (with one multilobed nucleus) is described and correlated with their function. The cell surface is not ciliated, but has a continuous border of microvilli and deeply folded invaginations. Different types of vesicles and vacuoles are distinguished; they have partly an endocytotic (demonstrated with ferritin) but mainly an exocytotic activity, in the latter case often with the rupture of enormous vacuoles versus the exterior of the cell.
