The integration of the data in a single environment allows to have all the useful information available for accurate planning, including: the evaluation, by comparing with previous data, of the extent and incidence of any episode of alteration in the marine environment; and the identification of the background values, by monitoring the "white" points (areas with the lowest possible anthropogenic impact, such as the Marine Protected Areas) of a large series of sea health indicators, on which to set up processing for the calculation of environmental damage. Thanks to its activity of collecting data from regional observation networks on the marine environment, made available to users via the Internet, Si.Di.Mar is still the only database that collects data at national level related to the marine environment.
