Abstract
The paper deals with the relation between squat and trim and the corresponding implications to under-keel-clearance. A long-term study performed with one particular bulk carrier demonstrates that the dynamic change of trim is a good indicator of squat. Since trim can be measured in real-time, a method of real-time squat determination has been developed. On other types of vessels there is not always a significant correlation between squat and trim. There, the combination with different sensitive parameters is under investigation.
