Abstract
This chapter describes how the two North East Atlantic Regional Conventions, North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) and Marine Environment of the North East Atlantic (OSPAR), operate in practice and how there has been a development towards a focus on biodiversity conservation linked to rational and sustainable practices in the various sectors making use of this maritime area (i.e. fisheries), prevention of pollution and controlling adverse impacts of human activities. It identifies a number of acknowledged differences, highlights positive signs of regional cooperation and suggests how this might provide a global model for marine governance and management.
