| Abstract |
Monitoring macro-organisms in the marine ecosystems has become a subject of significant interest in recent years. The utilization of environmental DNA (eDNA) technology presents a promising avenue for marine biomonitoring, offering an efficient and convenient approach. However, there is a scarcity of comprehensive studies that provide an overview of the development and application of marine eDNA technology. The present study involves a comprehensive investigation and compilation of all publications from January 2012 to November 2024 pertaining to the application of eDNA technology for monitoring marine macro-organisms. It presents a comprehensive overview of the current status of eDNA technology application in marine macro-organism monitoring, focusing on the historical development, technical processes, and practical applications. And the limitations of eDNA technology have also been proposed. A review of current research hotspots and innovation trends suggests that the application of eDNA technology will provide a novel approach to biodiversity conservation, macro-organisms monitoring in marine ecosystems. |
