Abstract
    The benthic macrofaunal communities of soft bottoms in the Lapamán beach are described. The set of biological and physico-chemical data from intertidal zone is studied by means of correspondence analysis. The main community detected is a "biocoenosis of sands and slightly muddy medio-littoral sands" widespread throughout the beach which overlaps with a "boreal lusitanian Tellina community" in the lower level (transition zone to infralittoral level). The importance of the tidal level factor on the distribution of intertidal populations is highlighted.
